When the Soul Cracks but the Heart Still Beats

There is something about life that keeps humbling me and it is how fragile we truly are. We move with confidence, we make plans, we take decisions, we pursue purpose, yet we rarely pause to consider how deeply every single choice shapes us. Each decision carries weight. Each step creates a direction. Sometimes the effect is not immediate but with time we realise that one moment altered more than we understood.

I started out as a science student before life took its own turn on me, that part is a story for another day. In those early years I was fascinated by the human heart. It is carefully preserved within the ribcage, intelligently designed, protected yet still delicate. It is strong but not untouchable, every steady double beat speaks health. That rhythm is a sign of life and hope. As long as the heart beats there is still breath, there is still opportunity, there is still tomorrow Yet there are realities that interrupt more than our physical rhythm. Disease can weaken the body; the loss of a loved one can shake our foundation, accidents, betrayal, disappointment, sudden changes in life can crack something deeper than the physical heart in other words they fracture the soul in one way or the other.

We were created to depend on God as naturally as we depend on oxygen. Dependence was never meant to feel like weakness it simply was alignment. Scripture reminds us in Genesis 1:27 that we were made in His image and likeness. It also tells us in Jeremiah 1:5 that we were known before we were formed; that means God was Father before we even recognised Him as such, but life happens, circumstances accumulate, sin enters and begins to distort our belief.

Sin is not just an action; it is a disruption of alignment. It affects how we see, how we respond, how we interpret life. When the soul is fractured, we begin to judge situations and people based on our experiences rather than truth. We see through wounds instead of wisdom. Even God’s voice can seem distant or diluted, not because He has changed but because our hearing has been affected.

A fractured soul is like shattered glass whose pieces are still present, but the reflection is distorted. Unless we allow God to intervene, we continue living from those broken reflections. This is why Psalm 23:3a is so powerful to me, it says “He restores my soul.” Restoration here means bringing something back to its original design. It is not pretending the damage never happened rather It is God carefully realigning what has been displaced.

When He restores, wholeness returns, His Spirit begins to express Himself freely within us, authority not only returns but becomes natural, Grace becomes evident and Strength becomes steady. Things begin to shift from the inside and eventually they manifest outwardly

So, what i can tell the LORD is still simple and sincere:

Father please restore my soul, make me more like You. Let Your Spirit take full shape in me so that I may live as I was ordained from my mother’s womb.Make me whole again , heal me completely so that my vision will be clear.

Help me, Father.

Amen
